pages home about press shopping links review policy contact sunday, 14 december 2014 product review: cherry blossom hijabs cherry blossom hijabs is a website based in the uk, selling affordable scarves, pins and other accessories. i was sent a few products including the paradise blue ombre , black lace ombre , cream fleur pin storage and some rose hijab pins to review. the paradise blue ombre scarf has three sections of navy, grey and cream which merge together. it measures about 110 x 180cm and is made of a lightweight viscose fabric. i like the ombre effect as the scarf will look slightly different depending on how you style it. it's a great colour combination for winter. the black lace ombre scarf measures 90cm x 180cm and is made of a viscose/cotton mix. it also has a slight ombe effect with black, lace, cream then grey sections lengthwise. the fabric is soft and lightweight and is great for creating folds and volume. finally the cream fleur pin storage and the other tins on the website are perfect for travelling and storing your hijab pins safely, as the lid is quite secure. the grey and cream rose hijab pins are simple and great for everyday use, particularly with these 2 scarves. overall the cherry blossom hijabs website is a good place to check out if you're looking for simple, inexpensive plain or patterned scarves. posted by jana 6 comments: labels: product reviews sunday, 30 november 2014 product review: mirage by numra mirage by numra is a new website which provides clothing, scarves and jewellery. for me, the maxi skirts are what i love most about this brand. most modest clothing brands in the past have focussed on plain jersey skirts which i personally find clingy and quickly start to look worn after a few washes. finally, mirage by numra provide designs which are dressy yet wearable. i was recently contacted by numra and asked to review the black silk skirt and grey jersey lace scarf . looking at the photos on the website, i expected the skirt to be stiff and structured, however it is actually very lightweight and flowing. the fabric has a beautiful embossed pattern with a slight sheen to it. the skirt has pleats at the front and an elasticated waistband at the back, and a full-length lining. i found it to be quite long even with heels, so would definitely need adjusting if you're on the shorter side. i also found that the range of sizes is pretty limited - for example a large is the equivalent of a uk size 12/14. overall though i love the design of this and the other skirts on the mirage website - they are perfect for evenings or a special occasion. the grey jersey lace scarf measures about 77cm x 188cm, and is made of a textured jersey with lace at either end. whilst i love the colour of this scarf - it's a great neutral shade - i wasn't so keen on the fabric itself, which is quite heavy. it is however quite hardwearing and you can easily use pins in this without it snagging. the fabric also has a slight sheen to it, and is great for cooler weather. you can purchase these are other items via the mirage by numra website. posted by jana 1 comment: labels: product reviews tuesday, 11 november 2014 high street finds: long shirts long shirts are a versatile wardrobe staple for me, yet it takes some searching to find one at the right length that also has long sleeves. these are my high street picks for this season, and they're perfect for layering too: long silk shirt £129, jigsaw; sammy silk shirt £125, french connection; zipped tunic with side slits £59.99, zara; ivory longline slim shirt £69, mint velvet. posted by jana no comments: labels: high street finds saturday, 8 november 2014 smoky not smudgy 2014 it's that time of year again - smoky not smudgy is back for the 7th time! posted by jana no comments: labels: events sunday, 2 november 2014 product review: the scarves company the scarves company are a company based in the north west of england, and launched in june 2013. they have recently added new thicker scarves for autumn/winter, and sent me the umniya tye dye animal orange scarf , raha paisley pink black scarf and chevron missoni mocha grey scarf to review. the scarves came packaged in a lovely bright pink gift box with black ribbon: the umniya scarf is made of a viscose fabric and has a bold animal print in black, beige and orange. as with all the scarves, it is maxi sized and measures approximately 100 x 180cm. the pattern is really distinctive, and this is a great scarf for dressing up neutral blacks and beiges, though a little too loud for my taste: the raha paisley scarf is also a maxi hijab, with a delicate, slightly faded black paisley pattern. it also has slightly frayed edges at both ends. i'm not sure though that i would describe it as 'pink' though as the background is more of light cream. the fabric is also viscose, however i felt this one was slightly rougher than the umniya scarf. both are great for creating styles with volume and are non-slip. the chevron scarf is a made of a really soft fabric which has a slight sheen to it, and is more opaque than the other two scarves. it measures 190cm x 70cm with short fringing at either end. personally i think this works much better as a neck scarf or shawl than as a hijab. the fabric is not too thick, and the neutral grey and brown colours work well with other neutrals. this is my personal favourite of all the scarves. overall, i was impressed by the quick delivery and thoughtful packaging of the scarves. the scarves company website is easy to navigate, with reasonable quality photos. it's worth checking out if you're looking for new scarves this season. posted by jana 1 comment: labels: product reviews sunday, 12 october 2014 (sunday) styleflash here's a quick round up of the latest new collections and offers!
